Types Of Lesson Plans You Should Avoid On The Day Of Your Classroom Observation

Education & Development Blog

If you are a teacher who is expecting a classroom observation sometime in the near future, then you might be unsure of what type of lesson plan you should plan for. Of course, all sorts of lesson plans can work, but these are a few that you might want to avoid:

"Movie Day"

Movie days can be good for both teachers and students. If you show the right movie, it can be a good way to get your students to pay attention, and it can help them learn about what they are studying. Plus, it can provide them with a little bit of a break from all of the hard work that they have been doing, and it can give you some time to grade papers yourself. However, even though movie day can be a good thing sometimes, it's probably something that you'll want to avoid on the day of your classroom observation. After all, not only will it not allow you to show off your teaching skills, but it could give the observer the idea that you show movies in class more often than you actually do, which probably won't be a good thing.

Classroom Debates

There is nothing wrong with a good debate in the classroom. It's a good way to get an idea of how well your students are grasping the subject material, and it can allow them to voice their opinion and practice their arguing skills. However, there is always the potential that something could go wrong during a debate, so you might want to avoid it when your classroom is being observed. After all, the class clown might be a little bit too tempted to show off for the person who is observing the classroom, which can lead to a disaster.

Tests or Quizzes

Your students will probably like the idea of you not giving any tests or quizzes on the day of your classroom observation, but it's a good thing for you, too. If your students are spending all of their classroom time taking tests or quizzes, you aren't going to be able to show off your excellent teaching skills to the person who is observing your classroom. Plus, your students might feel under pressure or distracted with another adult in the classroom, which could affect how well they do on the test or quiz.

As an educator, you probably know that having a mix of different types of lesson plans is a good way to ensure that your students get a well-rounded education. However, there are certain types of lesson plans that you might want to avoid on the day of your classroom observation. This can help you ensure that your classroom observation goes as well as possible.
